A 28-year-old Iranian man was arrested at his home Wednesday after receiving tablets of heroin sent to him from Belgium, the Metropolitan Police Department said.
Kamal Bozorgi, a resident of Shinagawa Ward, was caught red-handed when he received a wooden box containing about 2,700 tablets of heroin with a street value of around 17 million yen, police said.
According to the National Police Agency, this is the first time heroin has been found in tablet form in Japan. The box was double-bottomed and contained electrical appliances, including a hair dryer, to hide the drugs, police said.
The MPD was informed of the hidden contents by the Tokyo Customs Office, which detected the heroin in the box during customs clearance procedures, police said.
