Fumiko Saiga, minister of the Japanese delegate to the United Nations, will be appointed vice governor of the Saitama Prefectural Government, Vice Foreign Minister Shunji Yanai said Monday.
It will be the first time for the Foreign Ministry to dispatch a vice governor to a local government, according to Yanai. The appointment will take effect in early May, Yanai said.
Saitama Prefecture has three vice governors, and one of the posts is set aside for a female bureaucrat from the national government.
