OSAKA -- Sadao Kondo, a managing director of Sanyo Electric Co., will become president on June 26, succeeding Yasuaki Takano, who will then become vice chairman, it was announced here March 17.
Takano, 66, who has been serving as president since December 1992, told reporters he believes Kondo is suitable for the presidential post and can cope with rapid development of new products and technological progresses.
Kondo, 60, who also heads the company's semiconductor department, said he will make efforts to create new products related to multimedia and clean energy as well as parts for quality products. "I was very surprised when I was nominated as the next president," he said. "I would like to help speed up communications between executives and department heads." Kondo joined Tokyo Sanyo Electric Co. in 1960 and became managing director in June 1996.
