Japanese and Chinese environment researchers and engineers will hold a meeting later this month in Beijing to discuss a joint plan to designate some cities in China to conduct intensive research on creating environment friendly cities, Chief Cabinet Secretary Kanezo Muraoka said March 16.
During the three-day meeting, which is to start March 25, they will discuss ways to prevent acid rain, the formation of industries and society to effectively recycle resources and methods to decrease energy consumption to prevent global warming, Muraoka told a regular news conference.
Three cities, including Dalian and Chongqing, are currently being considered as candidates for the research, Muraoka said. The environment cooperation plan is included in a bilateral agreement made in September when Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto visited Beijing.
