OSAKA -- LADY 1st, a new kiosk targeting female commuters, opened March 9 at JR Shin-Osaka Station.
The store sells a variety of items, including cosmetics, sweets and popular women's cigarettes, books and magazines.
According to West Japan Kiosk, a subsidiary of West Japan Railway Co., the company introduced the store in response to rising demand from women.
Women often have difficulty purchasing goods at kiosks crowded with male commuters, and these stands carry few magazines for women, company officials said.
The store is finished in an ivory shade and decorated with blue neon signs. The amount of shopping space is almost equal to that of a convenience store.
Although LADY 1st is designed mainly for women, men are also welcome to stop by, officials said.
