A Chinese man charged with not carrying a passport ran barefoot from a Tokyo police jail early Friday morning after an officer apparently failed to lock the detention hall and his cell.
Tong Changhong, 21, who fled from the Shimura Police Station in Itabashi Ward, is described as 176 cm tall. He was barefoot and wearing a blue sweat shirt and white sweat pants when he escaped. Police have placed him on a nationwide wanted list.
The Shimura Police Station took about two hours to set up an emergency cordon in a failed bid to catch the escapee, the Metropolitan Police Department learned. Tong also managed to slip past other officers in the police building.
