Japan and Algeria should work harder to deepen ties and take advantage of complementing economies, Algerian Ambassador Boudjemaa Delmi said during a visit to The Japan Times on Wednesday.
Japan could benefit from Algeria's supply of rich natural resources while Algerian manufacturers are eager to learn about Japanese management and production techniques, Delmi said. "Algeria is a good opportunity for Japan to gain access to Europe, Africa and the Arab states," he said.
Although Algeria has recently been the site of several violent terrorist attacks, these have been limited to remote regions, Delmi said. Security, therefore, should not be a concern for operations located in the capital of Algiers.
The ambassador firmly denounced the notion that the Algerian government is behind the attacks. He then called on Japanese journalists to visit Algiers to investigate the situation themselves. "We need the support of the international community to combat these terrorists," Delmi said.
