NAGANO -- Marianne Timmer of the Netherlands clinched her first Olympic gold medal Monday, turning in a world-record time of 1 minute, 57.58 seconds in the women's 1,500 meters at the M-Wave arena.
In doing so, the 23-year-old Timmer gave the Dutch their first gold medal in women's speedskating in a decade and put herself in unlikely company.
