OSAKA -- The Osaka Prefectural Government will partially meet a demand by day laborers in the Airin district in Nishinari Ward here that they be allowed to use part of a local labor welfare center at night, it was learned Friday.
Stricken by bad economic conditions and unable to pay for even a stay at cheap flop houses, the day laborers in the district, which was originally known as Kamagasaki, had been demanding they be allowed to spend nights at the Nishinari Labor Welfare Center.
The prefectural government was expected to have talks with the laborers and their supporters over such matters when part of the center is opened to the workers. The talks will also focus on how to manage the night stays.
Day laborers had been staging in a sit-in at the center since Dec. 3 to push their demand.
