Industrial output in October rose 0.1 percent from the previous month, an upward revision from a preliminary 0.4 percent decrease, the Ministry of International Trade and Industry said in a report released Tuesday.
The production index for the nation's mines and factories, which uses 1990 as a base year at 100, was 102.9 when seasonally adjusted, up 2.1 percent from a year ago, according to the report. The upward revision was attributed to the strong performance of pharmaceuticals and transformers that were not reflected in the preliminary report as well as to additional data on the production of ships.
The shipment index decreased 0.2 percent to 105.3, compared with a 0.7 percent monthly drop in the initial report. The inventory index was down 0.5 percent to 110.8, an upward revision from a preliminary decrease of 0.7 percent. The production capacity was 101.9, unchanged from a level marked both last month and a year ago.
