Japan will continue to support Vietnam's "doi moi" economic reform policy by boosting assistance in such areas as human resource development, Foreign Minister Keizo Obuchi told Nguyen Manh Cam, Vietnam's deputy prime minister and foreign minister, on Wednesday, according to ministry officials.
Obuchi told Cam that human resource development is important in promoting Vietnam's reforms toward a market-oriented economy, ministry officials said. Obuchi also told Cam that he wants to conclude as early as possible a technical cooperation agreement between Japan and Vietnam, according to the officials.
Cam is currently in Japan to attend a two-day consultative group meeting for Vietnam that starts today. He told Obuchi that promotion of Vietnam's economic reforms is not only for Vietnam but also for the development of Indochina, they said. Cam said he hopes to further develop relations with Japan because next year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, according to the officials.
