Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto sent a message Tuesday to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, asking for a swift inquiry into the massacre at Hatshepsut Temple in Luxor.
The written message was issued after at least 60 foreign tourists, including 10 Japanese, were reported killed in the shootout. The Egyptian government has blamed Islamic militants for the attack.
Hashimoto also made an appeal for the Egyptian government to make its utmost effort to prevent such acts of terrorism. Japan hopes to stay in close contact with the Egyptian government to play a part in preventing future terrorists attacks, he said.
