Teleway Corp., a long-distance carrier, and Icon CMT Corp., a New Jersey-based Internet solutions provider, will set up a joint venture in January to provide a range of Internet services in Japan, the presidents of the two firms announced Monday.
The new firm, to be called Icon-Teleway Internet Corp., will offer a comprehensive package of Internet, intranet and extranet solutions to corporate clients, beginning in April. Although the scale of capital has yet to be determined, 52 percent of the shares will be held by Teleway and the remaining by Icon, they said.
"The Internet market for corporate clients has been rapidly expanding and we'd like to capture a big chunk of that market," Teleway President Kan Higashi said following the signing of a basic agreement with Icon. "We've been providing full-scale Internet services since June and have come to realize the need to reinforce system integration technologies," he said, noting that he is counting on Icon's expertise in this regard.
