Iraq should adhere to a United Nations resolution and end the ongoing crisis over its refusal to allow international arms inspectors to continue their duties, the Foreign Ministry told a senior Iraqi diplomat Friday in Tokyo.
Seiichiro Noboru, director general of the ministry's Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau, told Iraqi Charge d'Affaires Muhsin Miro Ali that this would help the country regain its credibility as a member of the international community.
Ali told Noboru that he will convey the message to Baghdad, according to ministry officials. Noboru told Ali that the current situation is dangerous and that the Iraqi government should cooperate with the U.N. special commission tasked with inspecting the country's weapons and monitoring Iraq's disarmament efforts, the officials said.
