In the runup to next month's signing of a treaty to ban antipersonnel land mines, Sophia University, the Japan Campaign to Ban Landmines and the Jesuit Social Center will organize a lecture by a leading figure in the International Campaign to Ban Landmines tomorrow at Sophia University's No. 10 Auditorium.
Tun Channareth, an active member of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning organization, will discuss how he lost both legs to a land mine while serving in the army in his native Cambodia and tell of his experiences taking part in the movement against land mines.
Channareth is scheduled to give a speech next month at the Nobel Prize awards ceremony in Stockholm as a representative of the ICBL. The lecture -- to be conducted in English with Japanese translation -- will begin at 5:30 p.m. and be followed by a question and answer session. Admission is free of charge. For further information, contact the JCBL at (03) 3834-2388 or the Jesuit Social Center at (03) 3359-7655.
