Bomb blast in Shinjuku may have targeted Komei>
A bomb that exploded early Wednesday morning in Tokyo, destroying an iron gate to a house, may have been aimed at a Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly member of the Komei party, police said.
Nobutoshi Hazama, the occupant of the house in Shinjuku Ward, was woken up by an explosion at around 2:20 a.m. Wednesday and contacted police. No one was hurt in the incident.
Police said the explosion destroyed Hazama's side gate and they found batteries, a lead wire and parts similar to those needed to construct a timing device for a bomb. Police believe the bomb may have been aimed at Hazama's neighbor, Tokyo Assembly member Toshio Fujii.
Authorities are investigating a suspicious phone call made recently to a news organization, in which the caller said, "I am going to blow up Komei party headquarters."
