As more evidence of environmental problems at the Osaka site for Universal Studios Japan comes to light, a local citizens' group opposed to the project is taking its case abroad.
Mihariban, the Osaka-based watchdog group that monitors public spending, has written letters of protest to U.S. government officials in Japan, American executives of the theme park, director Steven Spielberg and the governor of California. The group plans to send a letter to Cathy Nichols, chairwoman of Universal Studios Recreation Group and head of the USJ project, asking her why the U.S. side agreed to the site.
