Tokyo will participate in an international conference on banning land mines slated for September in Norway, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Kaoru Yosano said August 28.
"The government (working with other countries) will seek to draft a treaty that will be universal and effective in banning the use of land mines while also securing the security of a nation," Yosano told a press conference.
The global gathering is scheduled for Sept. 1 to 19 in Oslo. Tokyo will decide whether to sign the treaty after it reviews its contents, Yosano said.
