Six pedestrians were injured Aug. 20 in Tokyo's Yurakucho district when a taxi mounted a sidewalk after colliding head-on with a truck, police said.
The taxi, driven by 56-year-old Noriyuki Shibata, of Tanashi, Tokyo, rammed into the truck at an intersection shortly after noon.
Three of the pedestrians were seriously hurt, while the others suffered minor injuries, police said. Shibata and a passenger in the cab also sustained minor injuries.
Police said Shibata failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection.
The accident occurred at a time when the sidewalks were filled with office workers on their lunch breaks.
