The head office of the Power Reactor and Nuclear Fuel Development Corp. (PNC), after its scheduled reorganization, will be accommodated at the PNC's facilities in Tokai, Ibaraki Prefecture, Riichiro Chikaoka, director general of the Science and Technology Agency, said after a Cabinet meeting Aug. 19.
However, because the Fukui Prefectural Government also wants to accommodate the head office of the reorganized PNC, the agency plans to move some office functions to Tsuruga, Fukui Prefecture, site of the utility's accident-halted, Monju prototype fast-breeder reactor, agency sources said.
A panel studying the PNC reorganization published its final report Aug. 1, calling for the new head office to be located at Tokai, as per the wishes of local residents, they said.
The chief director of the reorganized PNC will be stationed in Tokai and the deputy director in Tsuruga, they said.
Tsutomu Imamura, a councilor at the agency's secretariat, later called on Tsuruga Mayor Kazuharu Ishii to brief him on the planned division of the new head office functions, noting that the PNC's legal office would be in Tokai.
