An earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 6.1 on the Richter scale struck around 1:45 p.m. Aug. 13 near Miyakojima Island, Okinawa Prefecture, the Meteorological Agency said. A possibility of tsunami was ruled out.
An intensity of 4 on the Japanese scale to 7 was registered on Miyakojima, 3 on Tarama Island and 2 on Kume and Ishigaki islands and other places.
The focus of the earthquake was about 90 km below the ocean floor, the agency said.
