OSAKA -- Le Ngoc Thu, consul general for Vietnam in Osaka, said here April 21 the new consulate general will work to promote trade between Vietnam and Osaka Prefecture.
After arriving at Osaka eight days ago, the consul said he was impressed with Osaka's advanced infrastructure as well as the diligence of its people. "We would like to make the utmost efforts to nurture friendship between Japanese and Vietnamese," he told reporters at a news conference April 21.
The Society of Japan-Vietnam Kansai Friendship, set up by local political and business leaders, worked to bring the Vietnamese Consulate to Osaka since 1995. The consulate general started operations last month at its office in Chuo Ward here, issuing visas and providing information regarding Vietnam.
