Six Japan Railway group companies will discontinue sales of its prepaid Orange Card priced at 5,000 yen and 10,000 yen Mar. 27, the companies announced Mar. 26.
The JR group companies decided to stop selling two denominations of the card because many forgeries have been used at JR stations, and even exchanged for money, they said. However, the firm said it would continue selling the 1,000 yen and 3,000 yen versions of the card.
Police have been investigating the case, and as of Mar. 24 had found 159 forged Orange Cards. JR group companies started selling Orange Cards in March 1986.
