The Japan-United States Educational Commission has announced the opening of competition for 1998-99 Fulbright Awards available to Japanese nationals.
Named after the late Sen. J. William Fulbright, who sponsored the Fulbright Act of 1946, the grants are designed to facilitate international understanding between the United States and other nations.
Grants for graduate study, research, journalism, as well as short- and long-term international education administration are available. The preliminary application deadline is May 31, while the final application is due July 31. Interviews will be held in October or November. Recipients, announced in December, will travel to the United States sometime between July and September of 1998.
