This year, the ever-expanding Tokyo art and design festival Designart has once again added to its wide-ranging array of exhibitions, showcases and presentations, which run from Oct. 18 to 27.
This week, On: Design takes a look at a few highlights from the festival's largest iteration yet of 117 events spread out across the capital.
Designart’s official exhibitions at the World Kita Aoyama Building in Minato Ward are always well-rounded displays of both established and up-and-coming designers, artists and artisans. For 2024, its 18 creators’ works were curated by leading experts from four different fields: contemporary art director Kodama Kanazawa, interior and spatial designer Masato Kawai, social sculptor and interdisciplinary artist Ryuta Aoki and the Ubushina craft initiative founder Yudai Yachikawa.
