What’s happening with tourism now, and where can we get more information?

In recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, Jamaica is actively promoting tourism around the world and will have a large stand at Tourism Expo Japan 2022 at Tokyo Big Sight this September. We’ll have Jamaican coffee, food and entertainment. We invite Japanese to come by and rediscover why they love Jamaica.

What impresses you most about Japan?

The culture of omotenashi and the level and depth of hospitality, from a formal meeting to the supermarket — the generosity of the Japanese people is just overwhelming. Also, the fact that as a woman I can walk around with safety and security, it takes a lot of stress away.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to join the diplomatic service?

Be interested in people, be interested in cultures, in current affairs, be flexible, be hard-working and work on your soft skills. People will always be front and center in what we do, in public policy, the private sector and academia.

Do you have a motto?

Yes, one I learnt in school: “If a task is once begun, never leave it 'till it’s done, be the labor great or small, do it well, or not at all.” Whatever you do, make an impact!
