Champion of Japan's disappearing traditional crafts, longtime Tokyo resident Amy Katoh is an author and businesswoman. Her famous shop Blue & White testifies to her vision and imagination.
Three international young women came together in 1975 and set up the shop Blue & White in Tokyo's Azabu Juban. "Three of us and our 10 children," said Amy Katoh.
She is the one who carried on when other commitments caused her two friends to leave. "I suppose I had more courage then," Katoh said. "My friends got me through the early years and I was lucky."
