A dozen years ago when Gary and Alaete Fish retired from Japan, they left an indelible mark here. Light-hearted and laughter-loving, for 30 years Gary taught history and Latin at The American School in Japan. He was also an actor and theater director.

He and Alaete married in Tokyo in 1971. Vivacious and athletic, Alaete from Brazil joined the ASIJ faculty where she taught home economics, became volleyball coach, and made costumes for stage performances.

With appreciation and affection ASIJ remembers Gary and Alaete. From their home in Montana, Gary writes of enduring ties. "We are happy, sassy, and healthy, and we miss all of you greatly."
