Think public spirit, think Robert Neff.
When he, "the most school-spirited senior," graduated from the American School in Japan, an Ovid quotation captioned his photograph in the yearbook: "He was a leader of leaders."
That was many years ago now. Bob has fulfilled his early promise, and throughout adult life is the one in many circumstances called upon to advise and guide. A former compelling president of the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan, Bob was elected this last June the club's first "kanji." He explained, "This is variously translated as 'auditor' or 'ombudsman' to serve as a watchdog over the board of directors on behalf of the general membership." A recent Japanese regulation requires each organization with the status of FCCJ to have an elected kanji.
