This year Man Zhuang is exhibiting for a second time in the print show sponsored by the College Women's Association of Japan. This young woman is Chinese, an art student from Shanghai. She is also a dentist.
"Both my parents are dentists," Zhuang said. "When I was growing up, I saw a lot of my grandparents. I liked to be quiet and stay at home with them." In an atmosphere of old-fashioned gentleness, she developed in her own way and at her own pace.
Zhuang entered the dentistry department of the Second Medical University of Shanghai. After graduation she practiced dentistry for five years. "I liked it," she said, "but I wanted more spice, something new, something completely different. I didn't want to be only a dentist until I died. I wanted to forge my own destiny." She says that her given name, Man, means "something like romantic and free," and thinks perhaps she lives up to its suggestion.
