Mission: Space, a new ride/space flight simulator at Epcot Center, part of the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, takes Disney guests in a whole new direction -- straight up into space.
The byproduct of a partnership between computer giant Hewlett Packard and Disney, Mission: Space cost approximately $100 million to construct, making it one of the most expensive attractions at the world-famous theme park. It is also the most technologically advanced attraction.
Before entering Mission: Space, you are shown a video with actor Gary Sinise ("Forest Gump," "American Beauty") as a NASA instructor preparing participants for a space flight. Seeing Sinise in his NASA duds is as natural as can be. Having also appeared in the movies "Apollo 13" and "Mission to Mars," Sinise is one of America's best known astronauts -- even if his only space time actually took place in a Hollywood sound stage.
