Few Americans are familiar with Astro Boy and, I suspect, "The Simpsons" is not the cultural phenomenon in Japan that it is in the United States. So, briefly, The Simpsons is a cartoon showing a dysfunctional American family.
Homer Simpson -- father, failure and star of the show -- is a dolt who eats doughnuts and sleeps while working at a nuclear power plant. Marge, his wife, is brighter and more interested in her kids. Bart, the 9-year-old son, is an under-achieving prankster. Lisa, the 8-year-old daughter, is ultra-bright but morose. Maggie, the toddler, mostly sucks on a pacifier.
