The Haiku International Association is soliciting haiku, either in English or in Japanese, for its fifth annual contest to be held in November.

Participants are allowed to send in two haiku entries for the contest, which is being supported by The Japan Times and Nihon Keizai Shimbun.

Entries, to be postmarked on or before Sept. 20, must be sent to The Haiku International Association, 7F, Azuma Building, 2-7 Ichigaya-Tamachi, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo 162-0843.

Contestants must include their full names, pseudonym (if any), address and nationality.

Subscribers to the Haiku International journal are requested to use the entry form included in issue No. 51 (or a photocopy of it).

Winning works will be announced at the award ceremony, to be held from 11 a.m. on Nov. 28, at Tokyo Kaikan.

The judges will comment on the winning works, which will appear in the HI journal.

In addition to the award ceremony, Waseda University professor E.J. Pinnington will give a lecture on haiku in foreign languages, especially haiku in English. Tickets to the ceremony and lecture are 1,500 yen; the reception that follows costs 8,500 yen. Call (03) 5228-9004 for more information.
