In a musical score, the term "legato" indicates a passage that should be performed in a smooth and connected manner. As such, it is an excellent choice for the name of a sumptuous new restaurant and bar. Legato is every bit as "smooth" and "connected" as an orchestra under the guidance of a great maestro.
Of course, I don't review restaurants. The food might be excellent, but that's not my mission. One of Legato's best features is its stunning location. It occupies the entire top floor of the new 15-story E Space Tower, located almost at the top of Dogenzaka Street. With plate glass walls on three sides, it offers breathtaking views of greater Shibuya. Though the main dining hall is sunken below the panorama, a raised line of booths and row of curtained, private rooms each claim one side of the view. An oblong loop of bar and a handful of cozy tables hug the third sheer glass wall.
This is where one can sit and sip cocktails until 4 a.m. in luxurious surroundings, with excellent service and a seamless view of the city.
