Kelly Slater is a real surfer -- the high-profile world champion credited with helping reform the sport's image. But "Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer," a new game for PlayStation2, Xbox, and GameCube from Activision, is not about real surfing.

Real surfing is a bit like football -- lots of waiting broken up by short bursts of action. Rides, even rides on big waves, come in short, electric spurts. You just don't see three-minute rides, not in real life.

But such rides exist in Pro Surfer. You can catch a wave, ride the crest and slide down over the curl, cut back to slow your speed, then shoot the tube.
