By the time you read this, Raphael Sebbag will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of his arrival in Japan. He will not only be able to reflect on how much he's seen change in that time, but he will also be able to take responsibility for having engineered some of those changes as a DJ in Tokyo's club scene.
"I wasn't so much into music when I was growing up," says Raphael. He added, however, that he was "into performance and experimental bands in the early '80s."
In those days, Raphael used to hang out in Beaubourge -- the area around Paris' Pompadour Centre that is popular with street performers. One day he met a Japanese couple, who impressed Raphael with their lust for life as they bounced around the city taking on any and every odd job to survive. The three became close friends.
