Red is an electric color. It incites bulls to charge and people to revolt. It is the color under which more than one country (and soccer team) rallies. It is the color of lust and passion. Red is provocative, but the emotion it evokes depends on the person and, sometimes, on the time of day.
As Alfred Goltinger puts it, "At night, red is sexy."
And the interior of his new bar, Red Red -- as in, red red, not Alfred -- is dead sexy. The floor is a sea of luminous rose, from which the red tide rises to engulf the walls. Between skirting and bench, all is doused in a rich, matte tomato red. The bar is topped in a luscious cherry-red enamel -- thick and seamless. Panes of sleek, cherry-tinted glass cover backlighting along the main interior wall and form a sheer yet protective veil at street-front.
