With the 2002 Winter Olympics happening in Salt Lake City, the world will recognize that Utah is America's greatest mecca for skiing. But Utah is also an exporter of video games.
There are no game publishers in Utah, but several very influential game developers are located there. Not only are there several influential game development houses in and around Salt Lake City, but Utah companies have played a pioneering role in the history of video and computer games.
"A lot of the original technology and vision of (computer) graphics came from Utah," says Utah Gov. Mike Leavitt, who is currently leading a statewide push to attract more technology development to Utah. "You can go back and say there is a lot of technology that has been developed here starting with the idea for virtual reality.
