"Max Payne" falls somewhere between "Pulp Fiction" and "The Matrix." Well, OK, "Max Payne" is a video and computer game, so maybe it only falls virtually between those two Hollywood blockbusters.
"Max Payne," released for PCs in the middle of 2001, has recently reared its gory head on the PlayStation2 and Xbox game consoles. Gruesome, brutal, and excessively violent, this is a game in which players control an undercover cop whose cover is blown to everybody but the police.
Max knows pain. Returning home from work one day, he discovers that bad guys have ransacked his two-story home in a New York City suburb. As he runs upstairs, he finds that drug-laden thugs have killed his baby daughter. He runs to his wife's aid, but he is too late. She is murdered before his eyes.
