Q1: What was your first encounter with Japan?
My first encounter with Japan was through a classic work of Japanese literature called “The Tale of Genji.” The book triggered my curiosity toward Japan’s unique and sophisticated transitional culture and its close ties to China. I decided to pursue a degree in Japanese literature after encountering the book.
Q2: Please state your motto in life and why you have chosen it.
I always believe that you need to “choose between comfort and impact.” This motto has been pushing me out of my comfort zone whenever I come across difficult career or life decisions. It also encourages me to take up new challenges throughout my life.
Q3 : Over your career, what achievement are you the proudest of?
I am proud of being part of the driving force of the digital transformation of Discovery Communications since 2017. In the past three years, together with the new leadership team, we have brought thousands of hours of amazing Discovery content to more than 10 million Japanese audience members digitally and on TV.
Q4 : What are your goals during your time in Japan, your current position or in life?
My goal in the next few years is to build the most engaged passion communities through Discovery’s rich factual entertainment content, and make Discovery the most trusted brand in powering people’s passion in Japan. Outside of work, I would also like to explore more about Japan, its unique culture and its people.
Q5 : What wisdom, advice or tips can you give to people living and working in Japan?
