Typhoon Lan made landfall Tuesday morning, causing damage, injuries and power outages in the western Kansai region and surrounding prefectures.
Tottori and Okayama prefectures experienced heavy rain due to the development of "linear precipitation zones" — bands of rain-heavy, dense and towering clouds that can move slowly or stop, unloading heavy rainfall in a concentrated area.
As the storm passed the city of Tottori, the weather agency issued a heavy rain warning for the whole of the prefecture, leading the city to release water from the Saji River Dam late Tuesday afternoon due to fears that the dam would overflow.
