People planning to travel to meet with friends and family, relax at a beach resort, or head to a summer festival during the annual Bon holiday may be forced to change their plans due to storms approaching Japan.
Tropical Storm Khanun, which had logged typhoon wind-speeds before being downgraded, passed between the Kyushu region and South Korea earlier this week, pounding western Japan with rains well over August’s typical rainfall.
The storm caused power outages, disruptions to trains, shinkansen services and flights, and several injuries. Warnings for flooding, landslides and high waves by the Meteorological Agency were still in place in western Japan on Thursday.
