Teams consist of 10 players in the field and one goalkeeper and games consist of four 15-minute quarters. Players move a ball toward the opponents goal using a hooked stick with a flat side and a rounded side at the bottom. Players are only allowed to hit the ball with the flat side of the stick; using the round side is a foul. Each goal is surrounded by a D-shaped arc and goals can only be scored from inside this area. Fouls or penalties can be punished by giving the opposing team a corner, which allows a player to pass the ball out to teammates waiting around the shooting area who can then attempt to score against just five defenders. More serious fouls result in the opposing team taking a penalty shot against the goalkeeper. Hockey will be played from July 24 to August 6.

Eme-Ima Kitchen is one of over 10,000 kodomo shokudō in Japan. A term first used in 2012 to describe makeshift eateries offering free or cheap meals to disadvantaged kids, it now refers to a diverse range of individuals, groups and organizations working to provide not only food but a sense of belonging to both children and adults.
Japan’s ‘children’s cafeterias’ are booming — but is that a good thing?
