The sport was part of the Olympic program in 1900 and 1904 and returned to the Olympics in 2016. An interesting aspect of the game is that there is no standardized playing field, leaving players to contend with different factors on every course. Courses feature sand traps, water hazards and areas of deep grass known as the rough. Wind and rain also factor heavily in the game with the former affecting the ball’s flight and the latter having an effect on the course surfaces. Golf will take place July 29-Aug. 7.
