A remake of Masaharu Take’s 2014 hit indie boxing drama “100 Yen Love,” comedian-director Jia Ling’s “YOLO” topped the Chinese box office following its February 2024 release.
Scripted by Shin Adachi, the original film garnered glowing reviews, including from myself, while star Sakura Ando won best actress prizes delivering a full-throttle performance physically and emotionally.
“YOLO” follows the outlines of Take’s film faithfully enough, though the comedy is broader and the story has been adapted to fit its Chinese setting.
