A bands-stick-to-bands mentality has pretty much been the norm across the Tokyo music scene for the past few years. Similarly, there’s a DJs-stick-to-DJs mentality, as scenesters stay in their bubble and listen to like-minded acts.
When these worlds collide, though, it’s like waking up to a whole new realm of possibilities. Even if, yes, it may have been done before — the experience of watching an exhilarating act ignoring genre constraints can make it worth staying out all night.
That’s the situation I find myself in at clubasia, in Shibuya Ward’s Maruyamacho, where a four-piece called bed is taking the stage.
