A survivor of the 1945 atomic bombing of Hiroshima pleaded with world leaders to commit to nuclear disarmament at a recent event marking the opening of a museum exhibit in Australia that explores the destruction and recovery of the only two cities to be subjected to nuclear attacks.

Speaking from Hiroshima via videoconference, Yoshiko Kajimoto, 90, addressed attendees at the opening event for "War and Peace: The Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki" at the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney.

Kajimoto, who was 14 at the time of the atomic bombing, described the immediate aftermath as a "scene from hell," where the "stench of burning human flesh stuck to our bodies and our clothing."
