To commemorate 150 years of friendship between Japan and Belgium, the Himeji City Museum of Art is hosting an exhibition showcasing Belgian modern art.
Often called the "crossroads of Europe," bordering the Netherlands, Germany and France, Belgium has a long history of cultural influence from its surrounding nations. This exhibition charts the evolution of Belgium's own art through four sections depicting different artistic movements: realism, impressionism and surrealism. Seventy works have been specially selected for this exhibition, with most from the Himeji City Museum of Art's own major Belgian art collection.
Himeji City Museum of Art; 68-25 Honmachi, Himeji, Hyogo. Himeji Stn. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. ¥800. Closed Mon. 079-222-2288; www.city.himeji.lg.jp/art
