As one of the most important artists of the Italian Renaissance, sculptor and painter Michelangelo Buonarroti is best known for the ceiling mural of the Sistine Chapel, his marble pieta (Mary mourning Christ) sculpture in St. Peter's Basilica and the huge statue of biblical hero David at the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence.
This exhibition of 70 works includes 35 authentic Michelangelo sketches that are being shown for the first time in Japan and a special section revealing the master's influence on 20th-century Japanese artists.
