Dec. 12-March 27

With a focus on Tadanori Yokoo's illustrations for the 1976 historical novel "Genka (Fantasy Flowers)" by the writer and Buddhist nun Harumi (Jakucho) Setouchi, this special exhibition introduces viewer to some unusual monotone works.

Yokoo is best known for using vivid colors in outlandish designs; however, this series of images are drawn in black and white with the only color being the red accent of his hanko (signature stamp). Also unusual is the fact that Yokoo occasionally created his images before reading Setouchi's text, thus questioning the purpose of his illustrative inserts, and often added contemporary motifs that deviate from the story setting of the Muromachi Period (1336-1573).
